I recommend hand washing and hanging to dry. They are not made to be put in a machine.

It’s really a shame to hear the quality has dropped. We’ve had one for three years for our retriever. Early on we taught the pup the “place” command means to get on the mat and it has been great. It’s been through every baseball game, baseball practice, and dove hunt we’ve been to over those years and it still is great. The dog always knows to lay on it if we’re not playing with him and it make for a kid and parent friendly dog. Our has been wet many times and it looks well broken in but like it will be around forever. Because of the quality we purchase the similar looking dog bed and it didn’t last any time. The nylon orange strip around the border tore up within a couple of months. But this product has been great. I’m sorry to hear it’s not the same as when I purchased it. Looks like the bean counters must have started cutting corners. I’d just ask Mud Rive to focus on quality and not fall into that trap.

Bought my second one just as previous review not same quality lighter less padding bring back the OLD !!!!!

Okay Mud River, what have you done? Did your new deal with DU mean you had to make sacrifices elsewhere? I just ordered a second cache cushion for my other dog from Field & Stream, and what I got does not hold a candle to the one I bought years ago and reviewed back on 1/12 of this year. The old one is still fluffy and the outer orange band has held up phenomenally. This new one? Flat. Uncomfortable. And the outer band looks like it will not last a season, and my dog has not even laid on it yet! Not sure what is going on there at Mud River, but I hope it get’s better soon.

What does this dog mat not do? I’ve used the same one for years, with three different retrievers. It has been used on the wet ground while camping, in the dog cage while crate training, in the living room for relaxing, and in the truck for quick canine transportation. I have washed it multiple times and there is not a frayed seam to be seen. And it still rolls up to a football sized package for easy traveling. The only reason why I don’t have two is that the first one still looks like it did the day I bought it! The only thing I would change is add some sort of none-slip material on the bottom to keep it from sliding on hardwood floors.
